Students and employees are insured through the Unfallkasse M-V accident insurance fund when taking part in instructed sports courses offered by University Sport. However, there is no insurance cover through the Unfallkasse M-V for competitive formats such as university leagues, courses with free play and the flat rates, e.g. for the gym or sports hall. Those who are not members of staff at the university and civil servants are not covered by this general insurance cover.

External participants are not insured by the Unfallkasse M-V, even if they are properly enrolled in a course being provided by University Sport. In this case, statutory or private accident insurance should be taken out. All participants are advised to ensure that they have adequate accident, health and liability insurance.
